MARACALAGONIS er en komune og by som ligger 12 km nordøst for Cagliari. Byen har ca 7.000 innbyggere om vinter sesongen og arbeider med turismen om sommer månedene fra april til slutten av oktober. Stranden i Maracalagonis er sagt å være en av de flotteste strender på Sardinia. Midt i mellom Cagliari og Villasimius finner vi denne perlen med historie tilbake til middel alderen.

The Coast between Quarto S. Elena and Cagliari – about 60km – one-and-a-half day trip.

From the Calaserena Village run alongside the B-Road toward Quartu S. Elena and you will come to this small village offering the Capuchin Church dating back to the 12th C. and the Gothic-Aragonese Parish Church of Muraleva. Proceeding along the coast, our itinerary takes you to Cagliari (30 km away from the Calaserena Village), which has a rich and interesting heritage: museums, art galleries, as well as noble buildings and narrow streets where you will find arts and crafts shops.

The Nuragh and sanctuary trail: from Cagliari to Sassari – about 160km– 1 day.

From the Calaserena Village come to Cagliari and take the State Highway SS125 following the indications for Torralba (approximately 50 km away from Cagliari), in the heart of Central-north Sardinia.
The area is copiously dotted with the ruins of 30 nuraghes and 10 “giants tombs”. Undoubtedly the most important archaeological site is the Nuraghe Santu Antine complex whose treasures include the royal palace which led to the making of the Valle dei Nuraghi (Logudoro-Mieloghu) Museum.

The Giara Nature Reserve and the Nuraghic Complex of Barumini – 200 km – one-day trip.

Drive from the Calaserena Village to Cagliari and take the State Highway SS131 proceeding for 60km in the direction of Tuili, a small agricultural village with an interesting old town. Continue up to the Giara plateau and reach the “Sa Jara” nature reserve, one of the rarest example in Europe of unspoilt natural environment with a unique vegetation where wild little horses live, known for their distinctive physical characteristics. Following the indications to Barumini, here is the way to one of the most important archaeological site of the island, listed in the UNESCO World Heritage: the nuraghic complex of "Sa Nuraxi", an ample village of huts inhabited from 1500 B.C.

The Island of S. Pietro and Carloforte – 230 km – one-day trip.

Drive from the Calaserena Village to Cagliari, take the State Highway SS130 toward Iglesias and continue on the State Highway SS126 until the “Portovesme” exit. From here visitors can sail to S. Pietro Island. We invite you to take a panoramic tour of the island and benefit from the enchanting bays and clear crystal waters. Carloforte is definitely worth a visit, a small town founded in the 18TH C. by some Ligurian fishermen whose presence on the island today is testified by the local dialect and culture, as well as by lively traditions.

Villasimius – 50km – one-and-a-half day trip.

From the Calaserena Village take the B Road toward Villasimius considered as one of the most beautiful and well-equipped tourist destination on the Southern coast of Sardinia. The Old Fortress "Fortezza Vecchia" built in the late 17th C. is a monument of great interest from an architectural point of view, as it presents a starshaped plan. Since 1982, following the opening of the International Centre of Experimental Arts, Villasimius has become an important location for European artists and art exhibitions
